During the last half and a year (since I’ve really thought about buying my first photo camera, 8 months later bought it and shooting by it now) I saw a lot of different images by different photographers. And most of its were of nature and animals, because I always had love for it (as most of photographers I think). And I’ve never seen pictures more beautiful, wonder, with deep love for nature and making reflect than images by Alex Bernasconi.

Many of photographers who shoot animals does it good, very good, beautiful and professionally. But only in Bernasconi’s images animals looks not only a beautiful, but also emotional, can feel like us creations. In his images animals not static and picture-beautiful, they live just in photo. His photographs are alive images of alive animals. Every photo looks not like frozen life, but pause in time which will go forward after a moment, and yawning lion will shut his mouth and champ with pleasure, hippo will slip his eyes two times and then go under water of grassed lake, butterfly will wave her wings and get in the air from runway of wide grass sheet, chimpanzee will look away of fine distances and will engage in the decision of essential problems.

In Bernasconi’s landscape images there are amazing, fantastic colors. On the one hand it’s clear that this is real colors, not program processing. But on the other hand it’s difficult to believe that nature gives such colors, but we have to.

It was very much pleased to me Mr. Bernasconi’s openness and absence of snobbery. This is the feature of real expert of photography to my opinion.
It’s always unpleasant surprise to me such indulgent and haughty view for rest world by some people who thinks themselves as great professionals. I think they don’t understand that not any talent can justify awful character. So Alex Bernasconi has no relation to such people. He is very attentive to people who interested in his photographs.
More of it, Bernasconi is glad to share secrets of his skill. For example at June 2007 photo-safari South Africa trips 2007 were happened and anyone could shoot wildlife in Africa with Alex, could see how he works, take a few lessons, ask some questions.
Bernasconi uses Nikon system: SLR-camera (I don’t know exactly the model) and number of lenses from 12 to 600 mm. But he pays attention that "gear isn’t important anyway, it’s more important what happens behind the camera”. He means that photographer himself, his thoughts and feelings, what he see and want to tell are more important than camera.
Bernasconi has a number of awards listed at his website. But it’s not quite full I guess. Nevertheless here it is:
- 26 September 2007 – one of Bernasconi’s image has been chosen for album of Trierenberg Super Circuit, one of most known photoforum of the World;
- 10 September 2007 – six of Alex’s images were nominated at five different categories for International Photography Award 2007 – prize for which competes 30’000 photographers of the World every year;
- 8 November 2006 – one of Alex’s image has been chosen for Graphis Photography year-book (2007 issue). This album is one of most prestigious and considerable in the World and it publicates best images of most respected professional and commercial photographers every year.

Sun rising, the sneaky look of a predator, the sharp and curios one of a prey, the alternate lights and shadows over the sinuous shapes of a desert or the rainforest high contrasts, the bright and perfect colors of the heavenly palette, and the natural cycles coming one after the other, uninterruptedly, from thousands of years, are all magical shows that get you excited, reflective, scared, and get into your soul.
No way to capture anything of this in a frame.
But nevertheless, trusting on chances to realize a dream is what makes life interesting”.
